Who is to say what the truth is? According to a group of artists known as The Cause Collective, you are. The group’s long-term public art project, The Truth Booth, will be landing at the Tacoma Art Museum Sept 6 for a one-day pop up exhibition.
Artists Ryan Alexiev, Hank Willis Thomas, and Jim Ricks created this giant inflatable speech bubble emblazoned with the word “truth” in 2011 to transform public spaces and engage people across cultural barriers.
Inside, participants will find a video recording booth where they are given the prompt to finish the statement “The truth is…” in under two minutes.
“The Truth Booth offers TAM a unique opportunity to participate in the Cause Collective’s creative process. The complicated and provocative prompt about each person’s insight into truth will reveal how we shape contemporary society,” said Rock Hushka, TAM’s chief curator.
The exhibit comes to Washington after forays through Ireland, South Africa, Afghanistan, and North America where the prompt was translated into local languages.
The free exhibit will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday Sept 6 on Tollefson Plaza, directly across from TAM.
