According to a recent study by Dean Runyan & Associates, visitor spending in the county increased by 15.6 percent in the past year. Visitor spending in Washington state during that time grew just 7 percent.
“Effective destination marketing and place making works, as these numbers show,” Experience Olympia & Beyond CEO Shauna Stewart said in a statement. “Thurston County has so much to offer. We’ve enjoyed inviting visitors from near and far to experience our community while supporting local businesses and generating tax dollars to support our local quality of life.”
Thurston County sees approximately 1.2 million visitors per year. The recent increase in tourists resulted in 2,950 new jobs and $321.4 million in direct visitor spending.
