Three to See: Week of May 9

The Grand Cinema’s 253 Short Film Party

If you’ve already seen Avengers Endgame and nothing else at the box office is striking your fancy, consider The Grand Cinema’s annual 253 Short Film Party beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10 at Urban Grace Church. This evening will celebrate the friendly competition among 31 local filmmaking teams who were given 72 hours to create short films that last no more than 253 seconds in length. Audience members will enjoy a photobooth, door prizes, and will be given the chance to vote for their favorite film. Tickets available through The Grand Cinema.

Mother’s Day Cruise with Alderbrook

Is your husband still scratching his head about what to get you for Mother’s Day? Go ahead and drop some heavy hints about an excursion from Alderbrook Resort & Spa. Choose from three hour-long sailings on May 10, 11, or 12 and head out with your brood on the Twanoh Yacht. On board you will enjoy the warm sunshine while imbibing champagne and noshing on some yummy cake pops. All passengers also will receive a souvenir. If you’re prone to motion sickness, Alderbrook also has brunch or spa options that could make great gifts, too.

Bonsai Fest at Pacific Bonsai Museum

It’s no coincidence that the Pacific Bonsai Museum chose Mother’s Day weekend for its annual Bonsai Fest weekend — what mom wouldn’t want to take a casual stroll with her family while enjoying majestic bonsais and azaleas at peak-bloom? Oh, and did we mention the food? Sirius Wood Fired Pizza and Bliss Small Batch Creamery will be on site and there will be wine and beer, too. Event begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and runs through 4 p.m. on Sunday.
