Parents and grandparents may remember a time when it was not uncommon for a traveling circus to come through town, but most children today have not experienced the wonder of the big top. They’ll have their chance soon, though: From June 26 through July 7, former Ringling Bros ringmaster Kevin Venardos will present a unique Broadway-style circus production in Tacoma’s Wright Park.
The red and white striped tent of the Venardos Circus will be filled with aerialists, acrobats, jugglers, comics, daredevils, magicians, contortionists, music, and more. The space between the pond and the playground off of I Street in Wright Park will undergo a whimsical and marvelous transformation for those two weeks.
The animal-free performance pays homage to classic circus traditions to appeal to the nostalgic, but has customized its routine for the entertainment and enjoyment of modern family audiences.
Shows will be conducted Wednesday through Sunday weekly. This is the fourth year the Venardos Circus is returning to the Pacific Northwest. It has been touring the country since it’s debut at the L.A. County Fair in 2014.
