Tacoma Urban League Announces Legacy Award Winners

Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards and the University of Puget Sound are among the five individuals and one organization to receive the Tacoma Urban League’s 2018 Legacy Award.

Founded in 1968, the Tacoma Urban League aims to empower African Americans and other disenfranchised groups to enter the economic and social mainstream. The organization actively partners with government, private, and public agencies to serve as a catalyst for change.

In addition to Woodards and the University of Puget Sound, this year’s honorees also include Thomas Dixon, Cathy Hall, Bonnie Pinckney, and Dean Sugimoto.

The Legacy Awards will be presented on Fri., Oct. 5, at 6 p.m., at the Hotel Murano’s Bicentennial Pavilion during a celebration that will also mark the Tacoma Urban League’s 50th Anniversary.
