If you’re looking for fresh finds from local farms, you needn’t look far. Tacoma Farmers Market has four locations throughout the city, offering market shopping for almost every day of the week.
“We’re really ramping up for the season now, and very excited,” says Anika Moran, executive director. “With farmers markets now being able to operate under specific COVID guidelines set by the State Department of Health, we’re really grateful to have a chance to open up a bit more.”
The markets have everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to naturally fermented hot sauces, from baked goods to breads and cheeses. A number of hot food vendors will be serving up tasty bites, too.
Besides beer and wine, and even a meadery that makes honey wine, there will be several Tacoma cideries on hand this season.
The Broadway market will be bringing back live music this year with several local string artists performing once a month, sponsored by KNKX and others. Additional acts and sponsors extending to other market locations are in the works.
The Fresh Express mobile market, now in its second year, is hugely beneficial as it makes stops in low-income and rural areas. This makes access to affordable and high-quality produce available to everyone. The mobile market opens May 1, with a number of regularly scheduled stops.
Tacoma Farmers Market is happy to offer Food Access programs at every market, accepting both, SNAP, EBT, and SNAP Market Match, which doubles the amount customers can spend.
The Apple A Day Program, sponsored by TAPCO Credit Union, empowers children ages 2-16 to make healthy eating and shopping choices. Kids receive an apple token from the market information booth to exchange for free fruit or vegetables.
