Tacoma Dome Beefs Up Security

Officials at the Tacoma Dome are increasing security with metal detectors at all entrances and size restrictions on bags. People attending the AC/DC show on Feb. 2 will be the first to experience the new changes.

“The safety and security of our fans has always been our utmost priority,” said Kim Bedier in a release. Bedier is Director of Tacoma Public Assembly Facilities. “We are committed to providing the resources necessary to ensure an outstanding fan experience while implementing procedures that improve safety for our guests, performers and staff.”

Here’s what you need to know:

* Handbags can be no larger than 13 5/8 inches by 15 ¼ inches.

* Backpacks remain prohibited.

*All bags are subject to search.

* Door for most events open 90 minutes before a show. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to get through the screening process.

According to Dome officials, similar enhanced security measures are becoming industry standard, including mandatory metal detectors and bag restrictions league-wide in the NFL, NHL and NBA, and nationwide at most non-professional sports venues.
