Cookbook author and frequent South Sound magazine contributor Danielle Kartes was one of our Women to Watch in 2019. She shared her story of opening a restaurant and having to close it when she was dealing with hardships, including being put on bed rest during her first pregnancy.
One of our favorite moments at the April event on the Hyatt Bellevue stage was when she told the audience: “I want people to know that life is good right now,” Kartes said. “Life is good when you have a tiny apartment. Life is good when you don’t have it all together. Life is good when life is polished. Life is good when life is hard, because it’s all about the journey.”
To date, Kartes has completed six cookbooks. Currently, she’s working on a collection of essays about her life and tackling a seventh cookbook. She’s been a frequent guest on national TV shows, including Rachael Ray and The Kelly Clarkson Show. She has some other projects she’s excited to reveal soon. If you haven’t visited Kartes’ Instagram account (@rusticjoyfulfood), do it. She not only will inspire you to cook, but she also will make you laugh. She and her husband, Michael, built their Rustic Joyful Food brand on a simple and concept — that life is good right now — and their careers as food stylists and recipe creators are soaring.
