1. Sail down to Thea Foss Park & Waterfront for the 22nd annual Tacoma Maritime Festival (Sept. 20-21, 2014, www.maritimefest.org). Bring the kids and experience the nautical life with fun activities, live music, and delicious local food. 705 Dock St., Tacoma – Cost: FREE!

2 – Whether you do it at a trot or do it at a gallop, get to Puyallup and spend the whole day at the Washington State Fair! (Sept. 5-21; www.thefair.com) With over 101 free-things to do, a day spent at the fair is never a day wasted. 110 9th Ave. S.W., Puyallup – Cost: Adults-$12.50, Seniors (62+) & Students (ages 6-18)-$9.00, Kids 5 & under- always free.

3 – Get into a Washington State park for FREE! (www.discoverpass.wa.gov/136/State-Parks-Free-Days) September 27th is National Public Lands Day and in honor of it, you can access any of Washington’s 100+ developed state parks, 350+ campgrounds and picnic areas, nearly 700 water-access points or 30+ wildlife areas and get to enjoy the great outdoors.

4 – Dust off your lederhosen and dirndl dresses, it’s time for Oktoberfest Northwest! (Oct. 3-5, www.oktoberfestnw.com) From the 5k Stein Dash to the Weiner Dog Race, you won’t want to miss this exciting weekend! 110 9th Ave. S.W., Puyallup – Cost: $10, Friday & Saturday after 7pm is 21+

5 – Auburn Youth Council and Starbucks is hosting “S’more Than You Imagined” –
A night of spooky stories, s’mores and a haunted duck hunt! (Oct. 5, 6-8pm) Bundle up in some warm clothes and we’ll see you around the bonfire! Game Farm Wilderness Park – 2410 Stuck River Rd, Auburn – Cost: FREE! *For more info, call: 253-931-3043*

6 – It’s never too soon to start planning for the holidays at the Tacoma Holiday Food & Gift Festival! (Oct. 22-26, www.holidaygiftshows.com) Whether you come to get a head start on your Christmas shopping, or to simply enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the season, make sure you spend at least one full day walking in a winter wonderland!
