Clothing racks line the spacious boutique, holding an assortment of high-quality yoga and athleisure attire. High-ceilings, crisp white walls, and wood accents give the space a fresh and modern feel. The warm hospitality of the owner and the stocked bookshelf in the corner could keep a customer in Ka’lectic for more than a quick shopping trip.
“My vision was to make people feel that it isn’t just clothes, but you can hang out here,” Hanson passionately explained. “I really want people to feel like they can come hang. There’s no pressure to buy. There is pressure to have fun and to be yourself.”
Ka’lectic is a multi-use space for classes, lifestyle events, and clinics, and is available to rent for personal parties and events. The space was designed to be a home for many different types of events, which is why all tables and clothing racks are on wheels to be able to open up the space.
From well-known brands such as Alo and Free People to local vendors, Ka’lectic has items in all price ranges and styles.
“One of my biggest things about this, is I want it to be an incubator,” Hanson said. “I want people to be able to come in, and if they have something that they sell that they are really passionate about — I want them to be able to sell it here!”
Hanson also does private styling appointments, where she provides individual attention to clients to help them find that perfect pair of yoga pants.
“A lot of times, women are wearing the wrong size. They always want to go up, when they need to be going down,” Hanson explained.
Hanson looks at these styling appointments as more than just a sell, but a chance to help women feel confident in their own skin.
“People are so hard on themselves, it breaks my heart. It’s so rewarding to help someone feel beautiful, and I know it may sound like you are just trying on pants, but it’s cool,” she said.
Ka’lectic is located on Pacific Ave. right below the steps of UW Tacoma. Head in to shop, and then stay a while to socialize, hang out, and talk all things yoga during the hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
