Shoe Donation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The City of Tacoma is collecting shoes for an upcoming domestic violence awareness event. Before tossing them to the back of your closet, consider donating your gently worn shoes for October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month event COURAGE: A Step in the Right Direction. In preparation for the event, The City of Tacoma is partnering with local nonprofits to collect used shoes now through the beginning of August. The donated shoes will be decorated by participants to represent the theme “A Step in the Right Direction to End Domestic Violence” and will be publically displayed through October for individuals to vote for their favorite. Decorated shoes can also be submitted at one of the donation locations until 5 pm on Sept. 17. All entries must include a name and contact number on the bottom.

Gently worn or decorated shoes will be collected at the following locations:

Crystal Judson Family Justice Center – 718 Court E., Tacoma
Girl Scouts – 1000 Davis Place, DuPont
REACH Center – 714 S. 27th Street, Tacoma
Shared Housing Services – 901 S. 11th Street, Tacoma
Tacoma School of the Arts – 1102 A. Street #200, Tacoma
Tacoma Municipal Building, Customer Service Center – 747 Market St., 2nd Floor, Tacoma
