As we head into the new normal, people are eager to get back outside this summer. Pierce County Parks will begin to allow authorized small group activities now that Pierce County is in Phase 2 of the Governor’s “Safe Start” reopening program.
Small group fitness, sports, and outdoor recreational opportunities will be permitted with a submission of a “return to play” health and safety plan. Individualized recreation and fitness, family-based recreation, scheduled small group activities, virtual classes, and the Little Wheels Racing program will be acceptable if authorized. Pierce County Parks encourage people to check its website regularly to keep up to date on new recreational offerings.
Limited park amenities also will reopen for permitted use, such as Spire Rock and select sport playfields for youth practices. However, large group events and activities are still prohibited, and picnic shelters and athletic complexes will remain closed at this time.
As part of Pierce County code, a permit is required to reserve rentable spaces for small group use. To submit or request a permit, Pierce County Parks at 253-798-4177 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
