Private Education in the South Sound

Finding the right school for your child

Annie Wright

There are many private schools in the South Sound. With specialty programs for gifted children, college preparatory schools, religion-based learning and more, the area is brimming with educational outlets designed to help your child succeed.

Annie Wright Schools

27 N. Tacoma Ave., Tacoma
Located in beautiful North Tacoma, Annie Wright has provided young people access to outstanding education since 1884. Originally a school for girls, Annie Wright now offers co-education for boys and girls in preschool through grade 8, in addition to girls-only Day and Boarding School, which is available to girls in grades 9-12. Annie Wright is recognized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Head of Schools Christian G. Sullivan says, “We provide a challenging, balanced program that helps our young men and women reach their academic potential. We are proud that, through small class sizes, differentiated instruction and engagement of our faculty, every student at Annie Wright is well-known and treated as an individual.” Sounds like a recipe for success, doesn’t it? Annual tuition rates range from $14,200 to $49,500, with financial assistance available for those who qualify.

Seabury School

Two locations in Tacoma
Is your child in kindergarten but reading at a fifth-grade level? If so, public school could be a stifling experience for your accelerated learner. For gifted children, Seabury provides customized learning to help develop each student’s individual strengths and skills. Seabury’s Head of School Sandi Wollum says, “It is no coincidence that we at Seabury count among our alums both a professor of astrophysics and a rock star. Seabury is about children discovering their passions and developing their talents — whatever they might be. It’s about engaging deeply in learning, and about finding out what it feels like to make a difference — even as a young person.” Providing education for students in pre-kindergarten through middle school, Seabury provides a unique approach to education to help your child meet his or her potential, and then some. Tuition ranges from $7,950 for half-day pre-kindergarten care to $19,280 for full-time enrollment at the middle school. Financial assistance is available to families who qualify.

Cascade Christian Schools

Various locations in Tacoma and Puyallup
Families interested in providing their children with religion-based learning need look no further than Cascade Christian Schools. A Christian-based school district comprised of four early learning centers, four elementary schools, a junior high and high school, Cascade Christian provides Christian-based learning to boys and girls of all grade levels at campuses across Puyallup and Tacoma. Serving more than 1,200 students and their families, Cascade Christian Schools’ mission is to, “Glorify God by providing quality, Christ-centered education dedicated to develop discerning leaders who are spiritually, personally and academically prepared to impact their world.” Annual tuition ranges from $7,655 for full-day kindergarten to $10,330 for Grade 12. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying families, and families with more than one child attending a Cascade Christian school receive reduced tuition rates for dual enrollment.

Evergreen Christian School

1010 Black Lake Blvd SW, Olympia
Evergreen Christian School for K-8 combines excellent instruction with devotion to the Christian faith to create a well-rounded education for its students. ECS prepares students through its many academic programs and activities and weekly chapel sessions.

Bellarmine Preparatory School

Bellarmine Preparatory School

2300 S. Washington, Tacoma
Founded in 1928, Bellarmine Preparatory School originally was an all-boys school but now serves both young men and women, providing them with well-rounded, challenging educations in the Catholic tradition. Bellarmine enrolls approximately 1,000 students each year from various counties across the region. Of all the students that Bellarmine Preparatory School has served over the years, its mission remains the same: “To graduate students who are open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving and committed to doing justice.” Because Bellarmine receives so much funding and support from parents, alumni and the greater Tacoma community, the school is able to keep tuition rates at just over $13,000 per year. And, if you’d like to send your child to Bellarmine but find it’s outside your budget, financial aid is available to qualifying families.

These are just a few of the impressive private education facilities that you’ll find across the South Sound. Other popular private schools in Pierce County include Tacoma Waldorf School, St. Patrick Catholic School and more. As you move forward in your quest for the perfect education for your child, take time to research schools in your area, meet with advisors, ask questions and weigh the pros and cons of each school.
