Plan A Parents’ Night Out

Has it been too long since you’ve been to a restaurant that doesn’t serve chicken nuggets? It’s time for a parents’ night out. We found evening (and overnight) childcare events run by area organizations and businesses. Best of all, you don’t have to feel guilty because the kids will be having so much fun!

The Children’s Museum of Tacoma

Parents at movie - South Sound MagazineThe Children’s Museum of Tacoma offers periodic parents’ night out events from 6-9 p.m. Kids get to explore the museum, play games, and make art. Pizza and treats are included. The cost is $30 for the first child and $15 for siblings. These events are recommended for kids ages 3 to 10, and all participants need to be able to use the bathroom on their own. These events fill up, so register as soon as you see them on the calendar.

Got preschoolers? Then this is the kids’ night out for you. Little ones get to play, get pizza, and do crafts. Every month has a fun theme. These events are designed for young children ages 1 to 6, and all participants must be under 48 inches tall. The cost is $32 for the first child and $27 for siblings. It usually runs from 5-9 p.m.

Discovery Village

This children’s museum/play space in Gig Harbor is another good choice if you have preschoolers, or just love the early-bird special. Kids enjoy play from 4:30-8 p.m. for $25 for the first child, and $15 for siblings.

The City of Auburn

Auburn offers a monthly parents’ night out year-round at the gym at Les Gove Park. Kids ages 5 to 11 get to enjoy games, arts and crafts, inflatables, and other fun. It’s $20 for the first child, and $12 for siblings; there is a discount for residents. It’s usually held the second Saturday of each month, and you need to preregister by the Wednesday before. The City of Fife and Federal Way Parks and Recreation also have offered similar programs.

This Auburn-area option is great for history-loving tweens. This one is an overnight, so kids get to have their own night at the museum. Cool, right? It’s $35 per child for kids ages 7 to 12. Drop-off is at 7 p.m., and pick-up is at 8 a.m. the next morning. Snacks are included.

South Sound YMCAs offer kids’ night out events and parent date nights that are open to members and the public. Kids’ night out events are overnights, while parent date nights are evening events. These programs are usually offered during the school year. Check the one near you for details.

Bricks 4 Kidz

Got a Lego lover? Bricks 4 Kidz puts on kids’ night out events at Meridian Habitat Park on the South Hill and Frontier Park in Graham in conjunction with Pierce County Parks and Recreation. Other Options

Many area dance, gymnastics, and karate studios also offer parents’ or kids’ night out events, either as a perk for members or a clever way to introduce themselves to new students. Keep an eye on the ones near you.
