If you haven’t been down to Fourth Avenue West in Olympia in a while, you might be surprised to find the new Isthmus Park, which opened this summer.
The 2.34-acre park lies on former County Health and Thurston County Housing Authority land and includes public art displays, benches, open spaces, and a bike shelter. But the feature which is projected to become the park’s biggest opens soon.
On Nov. 16, Isthmus Park will play host to Olympia’s first seasonal ice rink, Oly on Ice. The 4,000-square-foot ice rink can comfortably accommodate up to 125 skaters under its tent with retractable sides to shield participants from the winter weather.
The rink will remain open daily through Jan. 6 with occasional special events, like an ugly Christmas sweater party and Nutcracker on Ice, sprinkled throughout. Visit Oly on Ice online for a full list of special events.
