MODERN MINIMALISM

While living in Germany, the clients fell in love with open living homes throughout the country that used the design tenets of “less is more” and “form follows function.” They wanted to draw from these same concepts to transform their dark, outdated, and poorly functioning kitchen. Extending the kitchen ceiling, broadening the doorways, and relocating the existing sliding door all maximized the size of the kitchen to accommodate the clients’ desires for a large island, an abundance of cabinetry, and wide-open views to all living spaces. OPEN PLAN KITCHEN

1. ENTERTAINER’S KITCHEN

This new open plan kitchen meets the clients’ wishes for a large island, a second sink, and a wonderful space in which to entertain. Three different custom cabinet finishes were used to define the built‐in bar and soften the weight of the island. The custom bar cabinet includes pocket doors, which disappear into the cabinet, to reveal an onyx slab, mirrored back, and lighted cabinet interior, displaying the couple’s collection of scotch and whiskey. The location of the wine refrigerator and bar cabinet are convenient and give some separation to the zones within the open plan. This casual yet elegant open plan kitchen is an Entertainer’s Dream Kitchen.

LARGE KITCHEN

1. OCEAN BLUE

The homeowner desired a kitchen that incorporated her favorite color, ocean blue. They love their lake views but a load bearing wall blocked the view from their kitchen. By adding a beam to carry the load and concealing the framing for the basement stairs inside the peninsula cabinet, a spectacular view was made possible. Extending the wall between the backdoor entry and relocating all of the appliances created a more functional workspace. Striking Ocean blue tile backsplash adds the homeowner’s favorite color and echoes the water views. The movement in the gray veining of the countertop is reminiscent of the ebb and flow of the tide and ties in with the Shadow finish of the cabinetry.

SMALL TO MEDIUM KITCHEN

1. A BOLD STATEMENT KITCHEN IN A SMALL SPACE

My client wanted a traditional kitchen with both old-world elegance and unexpected, bold whimsy. Calming countertop and cabinet finishes juxtaposed with fun orange hummingbird wallpaper satisfied both desires. A new Monogram gas range and dishwasher along with a space-saving Liebherr refrigerator created a cook’s kitchen with increased and efficient use of vertical space-adding storage. I met my client’s goals and they love where they live.

LARGE BATH

1. PERSONAL RETREAT

A personal retreat where the homeowners could escape and relax was desired. Large scale porcelain heated tile, sapele wood for a natural element, and layering of lighting were critical to make each area relaxing and spa-like. A wood wall and textured tile feature creates a custom backdrop for the soaking freestanding bath. Backlit led vanity mirrors highlight the soft green mosaic tile and the pretty vessel sinks and wall-mounted faucets. A multi-functional shower adds to the options for a spa like experience with a seat to relax as needed. A towel warmer is a luxury feature for after a hot shower or bath. The master closet connects so the homeowners have easy access to the dressing area, and custom cabinets continue into this space for a cohesive overall feel.

1. MODERN ZEN

This bathroom was designed to accommodate those who are working from the home office as well as guests coming in from the outdoor spa. This space is layered with rich tones and subtle textures. We incorporated asymmetrical design with the shower tile layout and vanity lighting placement. Overall, these elements create a feeling of Zen and serenity.

POWDER ROOM

1. MODERN INDUSTRIAL

Ooooh that faucet! Highlighting this very unique tall curved chrome faucet was critical. This was achieved by adding texture in the background tile with the Ballistic Armor backsplash, and taking it all the way up the 10ft ceiling flanking the tall mirror. A standard sink was not going to cut it in this space, so a custom concrete floating sink was designed with an angled side drain to balance the shape and size of the tall faucet. The thick front edge adds some visual weight to attach the floating rift oak cabinetry on. Undercabinet lighting highlights the floating detail, and pin lights highlight the faucet and textured backsplash. A wall mount toilet was used for space saving and to keep within the floating theme in the space.

Other Room

1. LUXURIOUS LAUNDRY

This laundry room went from cramped and cluttered to luxurious and essential to the home. We combined function with fine finishes to provide this homeowner with a space that encourages productivity. A desk area for crafts, bill paying, and letter writing; a corner cabinet for the cat’s litter box hidden out of the way, yet still accessible; and an abundance of storage offer this client space for all of their family’s necessities. Pental “Argento” polished quartz countertops, Dura Supreme custom cabinets, and a “wow” patterned floor tile from Z Collection bring everything together in this luxurious laundry room.
