Starting on March 11, a new outdoor night market will be opening in Tumwater. From 5-8 p.m., Love Local the Tumwater Artisanal Market, located off of Old Highway 99, will showcase local small businesses through a unique combination of locally produced goods, food vendors, art, and entertainment.
“Our market brings together a variety of aspects that really encompass what Tumwater has to offer, handcrafted cider, art, and small businesses, with a diverse display of vendors, and artisans, which are also family-friendly,” organizer and owner of the property, Bernetia Johnson said. “I think it’s important for kids, especially, to be able to see the different kinds of things out there that could interest and draw them in.”
Sponsored by Tart Hard Cider, the market even has a few animals on-site for the kids to see, including goats, chickens, and bunnies.
With a lengthy list of procured items from crafters and makers alike, guests will find the sale of anything from wooden signs, and home décor to jewelry, soaps, and barbecue sauce to beard oils, and dog treats.
Johnson, who is both a military spouse and entrepreneur at Busy Bee’z Home & Garden Place, saw an opportunity to help fellow small business owners.
“I saw a lot of businesses suffering, many with brick and mortar in-door only spaces, where the business just wasn’t there during the pandemic,” Johnson said. “Having this outdoor venue really creates a place for vendors to come together, and support one another, as well as our community.”
Initially slated to open in February, the event was rescheduled due to the snowstorm. The March date has taken on the guise of a Fake Patty’s Day Market because of its proximity to St. Patrick’s Day.
Entertainment fitting for a St. Patrick’s Day occasion will be provided by That Irish Guy, Emmet McElhinney — an Olympia resident who sings traditional Irish tunes.
Special Love Local Tumwater merchandise will be on-hand with standout designs, and logos by DesignswithCare. The sales will directly benefit local businesses affected by COVID with customers making purchases entered into drawings for gift cards that can be used to support these locations.
Whether a family outing or date night, guests are invited to do some shopping, grab a bite, have a listen, and enjoy a fun night out in a COVID-safe environment.
The Love Local Tumwater Artisanal Market plans to open the second Thursday of each month.
