Local Boys Tap Room Expands to Bremerton

Gig Harbor’s Local Boys Tap Room is a little more regional after opening a second location in Bremerton this month.

Like the original tap room in Purdy, the Bremerton site has 40 taps that exclusively feature Washington state beer, cider and meads.

The taproom is the brain child of friends Bob Holstein and Trevor Jones who opened the original Local Boys Tap Room in February 2016 in the Bridgeway Market shopping center. The name pays tribute to the adjacent Local Boys fruit stand that is owned by Jones’ family.

“We are focused on featuring small, local breweries,” Holstein said. “When we opened the Bremerton location, we went around and got a keg of beer from every Kitsap brewery we could find.”

Business at the Purdy location has steadily grown, Holstein said. With no room to expand onsite, the two had to seek a new location. Many of their customers either work or live in the Bremerton area so they went north.

“So far business has been good,” Holstein said. “We find that a lot of customers don’t want to deal with the Gorst traffic so now they are waiting it out in Bremerton at our place up there.”

The 1,500-square-foot site in Bremerton is long and narrow. The bar seats 30 people with plenty of room for seating at the end.

“We just fell in love with this space,” Holstein said. “We had to do a fair amount of reconfiguring on the inside, such as move the bathroom.”

Only nuts and chips are served at the 21-and-over establishment, but there are several nearby restaurants that offer takeout. Menus are available inside the Local Boys Tap Room.

“We are really busy on Mondays and Thursdays when Horse and Cow (Pub and Grill) has 65-cent wings,” he said. “You can go in there, get 65-cent wings, and eat them here.”

The Bremerton Local Boys is planning its first tap takeover on Oct. 4 when it will feature 12 or 13 taps of Bellingham-based Boundary Bay beer.

The tap room opens at noon every day.  It closes at 9 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday., 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is located at 519 4th St. in Bremerton.
