Local Author Highlights Tacoma in Children’s Book

Growing up, your hometown doesn’t always feel that special until you really explore the history, which is the case for little Stuart the Raccoon, who needs to write about his Tacoma birthplace for a school project.

In this beautifully illustrated book, author Nancy Glen and artist Julia Glen explore the rich history of the City of Destiny alongside Stuart. He learns that The Blue Mouse Theater in Proctor has been open nearly 100 years, and that Chinese Reconciliation Park in Old Town was constructed to honor and recognize the contribution Chinese people had in building the railway and how they were poorly treated in the late 1800s. The Glens, who are sisters, grew up in Washington, which is where Nancy still lives and works. Copies of Tacoma Adventures can be purchased at glencreations.com for $14.95.
