As wildfire season continues throughout Western states like Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California, American Red Cross volunteers are there to help with disaster relief for communities in need.
“July has already been an incredibly busy month for the Red Cross, with hundreds of disaster workers responding to help people whose lives were turned upside down by wildfires and other disasters,” said Alex Dieffenbach, Northwest Region CEO, in a release.
Volunteers have been critical in providing aid to those displaced by the fires and relocated to more than 12 shelters and regional evacuation centers. They are operating around the clock to feed, shelter, and provide emotional assistance.
Some of the items received by disaster victims include not only food and snacks, but water, temporary beds, prescription eyewear, and medications. Additional resources have been offered to get families moved to safety — particularly people who have lost their homes.
