Hip, Hip, Hooray for Hospital Workers

Gratitude. For all the negative that swirls around this COVID-19 situation, so much positive continues to shine through. Last week, the Pierce County community and first responders came together in a car parade and as social distancing cheerleaders on sidewalks to show their support to the staff at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma and St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood.

People honked, decked out their cars with streamers, waved their hands and signs in the air expressing their heartfelt thanks.

In Tacoma, Hilltop Business Association and Allen AME Church coordinated a parade and donated homemade masks to staff. In Lakewood, the American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance and local fire and rescue joined together to caravan to St. Clare Hospital, parked, and cheered for all the health care workers.

“On behalf of our entire St. Joseph Medical Center team, I’d like to thank the Hilltop Business Association, Allen AME Church, and the greater Pierce County community for their continued support during this challenging time,” said Tim O’Haver, chief operating officer of St. Joseph Medical Center. “As we face these unprecedented times together, your generous donations of supplies and demonstrations of support lift our spirits and embody the strength of the community we are proud to call home.”
