Girls Only Prom Returns to Tacoma

Lisa Blackmore, local wedding photographer, came up with the idea for a Girls Only Prom by watching women dance their hearts out together at wedding receptions. In Blackmore’s eyes, no one was having more fun than the bride, her mom, her aunts, and the bridesmaids.

This weekend, discover the all-girl dance party of your dreams at Tacoma’s STAR Center from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on April 13. Tickets are $50 and attendees must be 21 or over.

All proceeds from Girls Only Prom go to the Sexual Assault Center of Pierce County, which supports sexual assault and abuse victims through advocacy and therapy.

Blackmore took inspiration for this event after hearing the stories from the #MeToo movement. This event aims to provide a safe and inclusive environment for women to dance without worry.

“I was diagnosed with Melanoma, and while I was waiting for the biopsy results, I asked myself ‘What would I regret not doing in my life?’” Blackmore asked. “The answer was a big dance party.”
