Gifts for Kids Who Have Everything

It’s holiday season, and for many South Sound families, that means exchanging gifts. What to do if the kids on your list already have one of everything? This month, we’ve rounded up favorite places to shop local for gifts out of the ordinary. We also have suggestions if you would like to give the gift of experiences instead, and most of these fun ideas work all year-round!

For Mom-and-Me Fashionistas

Liv and Rory is a small boutique in downtown Puyallup with women’s fashions and jewelry, children’s clothing, and some mom-and-me options. How cute!

For Junior Bookworms

Last year, my avid reader wanted nothing but books for Christmas, and we were glad to come through for him! We buy ours from A Good Book in Sumner, which has a super cute children’s section upstairs and a team of booksellers who would love to help you choose new titles for your kids. Perennial Tacoma favorite, King’s Books, is another great choice. We also love neighboring Destiny City Comics.

For Eclectic Fun Lovers

Want to give a toy with some staying power? Teaching Toys and Books has high-quality educational and creative toys at both their locations. Local moms also rave about The Curious Bear Toy and Bookshop and its curated selection of high-quality playthings. Its neighboring sister shop, Paper Luxe, is a great place to find gifts for that hard-to-shop-for grown-up on your list!

For the Baby Who Could Be an Influencer

Just because baby doesn’t dress himself yet doesn’t mean he can’t look fabulous. Channing Baby and Co. has stylish clothes and gear for the littlest customers and their hip parents. The owners are Tacoma parents who believe, “Practicality must be stylish,” and, “ … new parent(s) shouldn’t have to give up a sense of personal style.”

The Gift of Family Fun

We also did a shout-out to some of the South Sound’s coolest moms and dads and asked about their favorite experience gifts. These great options came out on top.

Memberships to Point Defiance Zoo and or Northwest Trek. Always a great choice for animal lovers, these memberships also pay for themselves in just a few visits.

Gift Cards for Classes

Metro Parks Tacoma gift cards can be redeemed for all kinds of fun, including fees for recreation classes and sports registration.

Tickets to a Show

Tacoma Arts Live has a great season, including the Peking Acrobats in January. Tacoma Musical Playhouse is putting on a production of A Charlie Brown Christmas, and local Nutcracker options abound.

A Weekend Away

Several moms suggested gifting a weekend away. Great Wolf Lodge is a popular choice, and the winter months are a great time to play in their warm pools and slides.
