DuPont’s Pine & Moss, purveyor of unique home décor, jewelry, clothing, and a variety of Northwest-inspired goods, has begun offering both seasonal and creative workshops within its recently opened creative space called The Fern Room.
There even is a ‘take-home kit’ option for those wishing to complete a project from home, as well as some upcoming new plans for virtual FaceBook Live events that guests can join in on.
Pine & Moss opened in 2019, created by owner and military spouse, Kimberlee Cavin. Cavin named the shop after her two favorite things about Washington — pine and moss.
What began as a tiny boutique within her former hair salon has expanded into what you see today.
“I started a little space in the salon, with accessories, and jewelry, at first, and then clothes, and small gifts. It really grew in popularity. Once the space was available next door, we decided to expand,” Cavin said.
Today, the shop is filled to the brim with a charming array of stationery, books, accessories, apparel, and both seasonal and lifestyle home design elements. All items are available for purchase online with flat rate shipping options and free local porch delivery.
The retail store hosts pop-up events throughout each month, showcasing the products of local crafters and makers.
“It’s a perfect example of small businesses helping small businesses,” Cavin said.
The recent addition of the Fern Room workshops came out of a lack of a venue for anything like it in the area. Cavin, having consecutively hosted a craft club for military spouses, realized the need for such a place.
“I knew people wanted it. There just needed to be a place for it. We have so many talented people in the area. I wanted them to have a venue where they could, not only create things but teach as well, just a place to share. I really wanted to share it,” Cavin said.
As social restrictions continue, in-studio workshops are currently operating with smaller group sizes. You can book the room for a private craft workshop for you and your friends with the number of guests depending upon the activity.
Cavin will soon introduce a new digital event format, which will be streamed on Facebook Live. “We want everyone to feel comfortable, and be able to join in the workshops, whether it’s in-person, or at home,” Cavin said.
Upcoming workshops include Thanksgiving centerpieces and live Christmas wreaths, by Stars Align Flower Company. There is a children’s Christmas ornament workshop, for ages 10 and up, and several more in the works. Sign up here to participate, or to purchase a take-home kit.
