See Your Animal Friends Again
There’s no doubt about it. Kids and parents missed their favorite Northwest Trek and Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium animals when both places closed due to COVID-19 earlier this year. Now both locations are open with safety measures in place. Here is what you should know before you go:
- Buy tickets online in advance. They are limiting guests for social distancing purposes and popular times fill fast.
- Wear masks.
- Northwest Trek recently reopened the central park area so guests can walk through and see animals. It also is continuing the popular “Wild Drive” tours where you drive your own vehicle through the park. Tickets for August are on sale now.
- Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium opened a while ago and now the aquarium areas also are open.
- Both parks have several new baby animals who are eager to meet their adoring fans!

Meeting Baby in a COVID-19 World
Hours after his grand entrance into the world, baby Za’Kai James N’Daiye nestled firmly in his father’s arms as mom and dad waved at the crowd two floors down. A group of nearly 30 people — family and friends — held signs welcoming the new addition to the family. Za’Kai, son of Zaid N’Daiye and Mikayla Duhamel, was born at MultiCare Covington Medical Center in the wee hours of May 6 in the time of COVID. In the pre-COVID world, hospitals had few visitor restrictions. Now siblings and grandparents have to get a little creative. Read more about it here.
