City of Destiny Awards Go Virtual for 2021 

The 2021 City of Destiny Awards will be held virtually over several media platforms, including TV Tacoma and Facebook Live, on Saturday, June 26, at 6 p.m. The ceremony, which is in its 35th year, recognizes recipients in categories like adult and youth leadership, youth service, equity and empowerment, disability advocates, and environmental sustainability, to name a few. Lions, More Tigers, and Bears, Oh My! Meet PDZA’s Newest Resident Tiger

Meet Raja, the newest resident of the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. The 2-year-old critically endangered Sumatran tiger was revealed to the public last weekend (June 19-20) and could hold the key to protecting the Sumatran tiger species. Raja’s definitely not in Kansas anymore, but Tacoma welcomes the tiger with open arms and the possibility he brings. More here.

2021 Virtual Dog-A-Thon

The annual Dog-A-Thon, hosted by the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County, has gone virtual this year. This also is the first year the event has been extended to a whole week. This weekend enjoy a fun-filled week of walking, running, and coming together as a community online to make a difference for thousands of animals in Pierce County. More details here.
