Zenoti Foundation Provides Salon Services to Seattle Shelters
On May 24, the Zenoti Foundation launched its national Shelter Days series with its first event in Federal Way in collaboration with the Gene Juarez Academy and the Jubilee Women’s Center. At Monday’s event, more than 20 shelter residents and staff had the opportunity to select from a customized menu of Gene Juarez Academy’s most popular haircuts and nail services. Services were performed by Gene Juarez Academy cosmetology students under the supervision of their licensed educators. The next event will be June 14 in collaboration with Snip-Its and the Sophia Way — Helen’s Place shelter. More here.

WSHM Honors Pride Month With New Exhibit
In honor of Pride Month, the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma will open an original exhibition about transgender people in the West from the 1860s to the 1940s. Crossing Boundaries: Portraits of a Transgender West will highlight specific people who moved west and changed their activities, clothing, and behaviors to lead lives that fit more with their sense of self. Their life stories illuminate the exhibition’s themes of visibility, identity, acceptance, and history. Learn more.
Tacoma’s Campfire Coffee Brings Accessibility to Specialty Coffee
Ever wondered what coffee roasted over an open flame tastes like? Tacoma-based Campfire Coffee gives you the answer. Campfire Coffee also is a Black-, woman-, and veteran-owned coffee roasting business. Whitni Henry co-owns Campfire Coffee with her husband, Quincy. Through their business, the Henrys seek to bring further accessibility to the sometimes not-so-accessible world of specialty coffee.
More Day Camps Coming to YMCA Locations
After last year’s COVID-19 closures, the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is offering more summer day camps so more kids can enjoy off-screen time with friends and healthy activities. Registration is open for the week-long day camps. Families can sign up for one week or register for every week through the summer. Most day camp sessions begin June 28.
