Feel Good Friday: Beat the Heat, See a Comet, and Go On a Scavenger Hunt

Powered by our community partners at MultiCare Health Systems and Greater Tacoma Community Foundation.

Beat the Heat

The forecast is calling for hot summer days ahead. We have a list of places where you can beat the heat and take a dip in the water — including Lowell Johnson Park on Anderson Island, known as the old swimming hole! Get your sunscreen and beach towels ready! Want more places to swim? Check out the book, Swimming Holes of Washington.

See a Comet

If you look up into the night sky this month, just below the Big Dipper, you may spot comet NEOWISE. You will see it even better if you drive away from city lights. However, folks have seen it along Ruston Way in Tacoma. More at nasa.gov.

Brightening Senior Citizen’s Days with Phone Calls

Social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 is making a lot of people feel isolated and lonely — especially senior citizens. The Care Continuum Team at MultiCare is working on connecting with seniors through weekly phone calls with the help of volunteers. Learn more about this heartwarming story here.

Register for a Scavenger Hunt in Tacoma

Tacoma’s Downtown: On the Go! is hosting its annual scavenger hunt Aug. 5-12. It’s free and you can work alone or with a team as you search on foot, bike, bus, and the Link downtown to win prizes. The deadline to register is Aug. 3. More here.

Picnic Perfection

We have tips to pack a picnic (like skipping dairy-laden salads) and a recipe for crispy oven-fried chicken that you can tote in your basket. Perhaps you should bring lunch to the swimming hole! More here.
