South Sound Small Business Summit

This informational event aims to inspire and connect the South Sound’s small businesses. Business leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs can learn from one another’s successes and failures. The summit will be from 8 a.m. to noon at Tacoma’s STAR Center. Tickets are $35.

May 4

Geek Craft Market

May the fourth be with you! Celebrate Stars Wars Day in Puyallup, shopping more than 50 vendors with handmade pop-culture themed items. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is free, and has ample parking available. Find more details on Eventbrite.

Vicki Lawrence & Mama

See the sassy and hilarious Vicki Lawrence, better known as “Mama” from the hit TV show Mamas Family, at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Events Center.Tickets for the 8 p.m. show start at $20.

Tacoma City Marathon (May4-5)

It’s too late to register at this point, but that doesn’t mean you can’t come watch! Support fellow South Sounders as they run a 5K, half-marathon, marathon, or 50K. Courses touch on Point Ruston, Point Defiance Park, and more.

Downtown Tacoma Market

Celebrate springtime at Courthouse Square in downtown Tacoma. More than 40 small businesses that have been carefully curated will be selling vintage goods and more from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Details about vendors can be found on Facebook.

Best of South Sound

You know what time of year it is! Join us at the Museum of Glass to celebrate the best of our community — as voted by all of you at South Sound magazine’s party! Tickets are $50 and are available via Eventbrite.

Comedy in the Box

The Washington Center for the Performing Arts will host a night of laughs starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Center Black Box Theater. Regional and nationally known comedians will come together in a unique venue with a full bar! Tickets are $25, and there are discounts for military members.

May 10-June 2

‘The Full Monty’

Don’t miss this hilarious show at the Tacoma Musical Playhouse! The musical is based on the cult film of the same name and has been nominated for a Tony Award 10 times. Tickets range from $22 to $31.

May 11

Wayne Brady at the Emerald Queen Casino

Five-time Emmy Award-winner Wayne Brady will take the stage at the Emerald Queen Casino I-5 Showroom in Tacoma. Brady is an actor, singer, dancer, songwriter, and comedian. Earlier this year, he was in Hamilton in Chicago. Ticket prices start at $35

Urban League Empowerment Fair

Head out to Kent’s ShoWare Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a huge career fair that will offer a wide variety of community resources on the spot. Workshops cover resumé writing, credit building, home ownership, and more. Learn more on Eventbrite.

Tacoma Night Market (May 17 – 18) 

t’s the anniversary weekend of the market that has become Tacoma’s favorite monthly party! Celebrate the Tacoma Night Market’s birthday by coming out to both nights and supporting local makers and artists. It’s free, kid-friendly, and fun. More details are available on Facebook.

Fircrest Color Run

This 5K and Kids Dash benefits Fircrest’s Whittier Elementary School. The goal? Raise enough money to provide field trips to all students. Register to run through Eventbrite, or just show up to cheer everyone on! 

Spring Fairy Festival

Crescent Moon Gifts in Tacoma has thrown a festival every spring since 2008 to celebrate art, music, performance, and community. Shop local vendors, meet fairies, and watch performers all day. The event is free and takes place outside of the store’s Sixth Avenue. location.

Blue Poppy Day

Experience Federal Way’s blue poppy meadow while shopping a market of local artists and enjoying a day of performances. The event is free and open to the public.


This annual celebration of furry friends in Auburn kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with a 3K or 5K Dog Trot, then goes on to feature live entertainment, frisbee demos, pony rides, a beer garden, and more. Kids, adults, and well-behaved pets are welcome.

Kent International Festival

The 11th annual Kent International Festival is a celebration of the cultural diversity of the greater Kent area. The event includes food, live performances, vendor booths, and more.

May 19

Modern Women @ Work

Hear local “womxn,” both cisgender and transgender, tackle the experience of what it looks like to be a woman at work today. You’ll listen to speakers, have time for dialogue, and enjoy nonalcoholic drinks and snacks. Tickets are $30.

South Sound Green Tour (May 19-20)

This free, self-guided tour lets you experience examples of green living in the South Sound by giving you access to sustainable homes, buildings, and businesses. Saturday will feature Olympia, and Sunday will feature Tacoma. Register in advance, then just show up, poke around, and walk away inspired!

May 31-June 1

Stamp and Scrapbook Expo

This event happens across the United States throughout the year and is coming to the Washington State Fairgrounds at the end of the month. Visitors can visit booths, watch demos, and learn in hands-on workshops. Depending on how much you want to do at the expo, tickets range from $8 to $49.

Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show (May 31 – June 2)

Calling all arcade lovers: You don’t want to miss this show! This weekend at the Tacoma Convention Center is one of the biggest pinball and arcade shows in the world, featuring more than 400 pinball and arcade games, both vintage and new. Enjoy five pinball tournaments, national and local vendors, and a lineup of seminars and speakers. 

June 2

Love and Laugh Hour

Catch the Real Comedians tour in Tacoma, which will be hosted by Tahir Moore and include performances by Tony Baker and KevOnStage. Tickets start at $30 and are available via Eventbrite.

June 7

Collage and Chill

Honey at Alma Mater hosts a free monthly collage event. Rummage through stacks of vintage National Geographic magazines, listen to some Lionel Richie, sip on some wine, and chill out for a few hours.

June 15-16

Slimetopia 2

f you have kids, you probably know just how “in” slime is right now. At Slimetopia — an event created by 14-year-old Brooken Leonberg — you and your kiddos can spend a weekend in Tukwila meeting well-known slimers and putting together your best slime creation to compete in the Slimetopia Tournament. Tickets start at $15 and are available on Eventbrite.

 June 21

The Brewery Comedy Tour

This nationwide tour, which plans to hit 900 breweries across the U.S., is coming to Forward Operating Base Brewing Company in DuPont. The lineup will include stand-up comedians who have made TV and top festival appearances. Tickets are $10 and are available on Eventbrite.
