Empty Bowls

Helping Neighbors in Need

People gather early in hopes of getting the best bowl. The bowls are made and donated by artists both young and old.

EB3More than 500 people attend the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser each year. This year it’s Nov. 21 at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma. Admission is free – and bowl prices start at $10.

After people buy their bowl, they make their way around the event and sip on soup. This year’s soup will be provided by: Adriatic Grill, Chambers Bay, Infinite Soups, Pacific Grill, Spring Lake Café, Stink, The Swiss, Viva, and X-Group Restaurants.

All the proceeds from this tummy-warming event go to Emergency Food Network.

Empty Bowls began as a grassroots project by artists. The program spans 12 countries, and many states across the U.S. It has been happening in Pierce County for the past 16 years. In 2014, it raised $24,000 – that equals 180,000 meals for people in Pierce County.
