The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Target Corporation gave James Sales Elementary of Tacoma $100,000 on an episode of Ellen that aired Jan. 5. The school was awarded that check after DeGeneres learned about the 12 Days of Hope program Principal Kristen Schroeder developed after watching Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways. For the 12 days before the schools holiday break, every one of the 400-plus students at James Sales Elementary were given a present. Gifts would range from posters to new coats. Principal Schroeder started the 12 Days of Hope to show students positive effect giving and receiving has on others.
