Eggcellent Ideas for Easter

Easter is April 4. Time to decorate eggs. Bored of your old egg-dyeing traditions? Here are five fresh ways to up your shell game.

SO SWIRLY

Get swirly marbled eggs by spraying shaving cream on a plate and adding drops of food coloring on top. Lightly roll eggs around in it. Completely dry eggs, and wipe off excess shaving cream.

CHECKS, STRIPES, AND GEOMETRIC

Create a checker, stripe, or random design by wrapping eggs with thick rubber bands or washi tape. Soak eggs in the color for desired vibrancy. Let dry, and then remove tape or bands to reveal the designs.

AH, GO NATURAL

Hate the smell of egg dye kits? Try using natural ingredients to dye eggs. Simmer spinach in water for green, beets for red, blueberries for blue … sky is the limit. Add a dash of white vinegar to make the color last. Leave the eggs soaking in the natural colors longer for richer color.

RICE, RICE, BABY

Take a small bowl or bag of rice, and add drops of food coloring. Roll eggs around, or give them a shake in a bag. The end results are speckled beauties.

STAINED GLASS

Stick small torn or perfectly shaped pieces of tissue paper on eggs (dyed or white) with nontoxic glue. The kiddos’ glue sticks work well.
