DNCE Rocks State Fair

DNCE entertains with set of original songs and classic covers

After a fun and upbeat opening act by LunchMoney Lewis, newly formed funk-pop band DNCE took to the stage. The band, with front man Joe Jonas, kept the crowd dancing and singing along with a one-hour set of upbeat original songs and a slew of classic favorites re-imagined. Nothing was left untouched, or un-danced.

The group played with the classics, offering up versions of Sting’s “Roxanne,” Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” TLC’sNo Scrubs,” Prince’s “My Kiss,” and others. We know your response is, “So they’re just a cover band?” But the answer is “Nope.”

The band, just barely a year formed played its four original songs from EP SWAAY, now available on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon Music, and streaming on Spotify.

DNCE opened the show with original song “Pay My Rent” and a couple selections from their upcoming album. Once Jonas began crooning “You can leave your toothbrush at my place…” he brought the screams as well as he ever had as a member of tween Disney group The Jonas Brothers.

Bandmates Lack Lawless, Cole Whittle, and JinJoo Lee exhibited intense skill while bouncing around the stage and running into the screaming crowd. The group’s smash hit “Cake by the Ocean” closed out the show, with everyone on their feet and singing along.

The group announced yesterday that it will drop its self-titled debut album this November.
