Cross the Bridge for Holiday Fun

Gig Harbor is bracing for its most festive few weeks of the year.

But Gig Harbor is bracing for its most festive few weeks of the year, and with a host of downtown businesses to shop for gifts at, it might be worth a four-wheel-sleigh ride across the bridge.

Here’s a round up of coming holiday events in Gig Harbor:

Dec. 5: Annual Tree Lighting

The season will kick off in downtown with the annual lighting of the Holiday Tree. Locals, visitors and even Rhubarb the Reindeer will gather at 5 p.m. at Skansie Brothers Park, 3207 Harborview Drive. Santa will arrive by fire truck at the ceremony.

Dec. 10: Menorah lighting at Uptown

The Chabad of Pierce County will celebrate Hanukkah with songs, food, and dancing. Celebration starts at 6:30 p.m. at Uptown Gig Harbor, 4701 Point Fosdick Drive N.W.

Dec. 10 to 13: Candlelight Christmas on the Harbor

Experience a small town Christmas in downtown Gig Harbor Dec. 10-13. Merchants will decorate windows, music will play and Santa will be around for holiday hayrides through the waterfront district. Hayrides go from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and start outside of Timberland Bank on Judson Street.

Dec. 12: Light Up the Night: St. Lucia Day at Harbor History Museum

Celebrated in Scandinavian style on St. Lucia’s Day, the festival of light that coincides with the Winter Solstice. The Swedish tradition of the feast of St. Lucia will be celebrated from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Harbor History Museum, 4121 Harborview Drive. The event is $3 for museum members and $5 for nonmembers.

Dec. 13 Hark the Harbor and Argosy Christmas Ship Viewing

The Downtown Waterfront Alliance will host the annual Hark to Harbor, featuring carols “heralding” from a decorated boat on the water. The Argosy Christmas Ship arrives at 6:35 p.m., but the music and celebration begins at 5:45 p.m. at Skansie Brothers Park, 3207 Harborview Drive.

Dec. 19: The Great Matassa Trio Christmas Concert at Morso

Seattle jazz singer Greta Matassa will bring holiday standards to Gig Harbor wine bar Dec. 19 at Morso, 9014 Peacock Hill Ave. Tickets are $20; show begins at 7 p.m.
