Sure, it’s the middle of the fall season, but when an ice cream shop offers to bring its mobile operation to your office for a tasting, the only answer is: Yes!
Bliss Small Batch Creamery stopped by our Tacoma office to introduce us to its ice cream and tell us more about its new shop. Co-owners and sisters Theresa Fouguette and Stacie Leaf opened the brick-and-mortar ice cream shop last month after operating mobile units — a handful of tricycles outfitted with small freezers and a vintage food trailer — during the summer.
Fouguette and Leaf decided to take on this new venture a couple years ago. Fouguette, who lives in University Place, comes from a corporate background, but she always reminisced about her high school gig, working for Baskin Robins with her sister. So, together they decided it was time to shift careers.
It took about 10 months for Bliss to go from an idea to scoopable ice cream, but by that time, it was Oct. 2017 — not a great time to open a new ice cream shop, said Fouguette. So, they started serving Bliss ice cream through UberEats, while searching for the right location. When a storefront space became available near Trader Joes in University Place, the sisters decided to jump on it.
Their flavors are truly magical, and some of the main ingredients are sourced from local businesses, including the coffee in its espresso chocolate chip flavor and honey from its honey vanilla ice cream. For those seeking non-dairy or vegan options, Bliss typically has about a dozen options (Yay for us dairy-free folks). We were especially fond of the dairy-free berry crumble, and the sunbutter cookie crunch was another hit at our office.
