Annual Heart Stroke Walk Goes Virtual

The annual American Heart Association Heart Stroke Walk will be held virtually on Oct. 10. The annual fundraiser traditionally separates as two walks, one in Seattle and one in Tacoma. This year, one virtual event will encourage participants to walk or run in their own location to support the cause, presented by MultiCare Pulse Heart Institute and sponsored by Premera BlueCross.

The American Heart Association is the leading voluntary health organization focused on heart and brain health; its encourages people to keep up the physical activity while remaining socially distanced at this time.

“Now more than ever during this time of physical distance, it’s important to find new ways to boost physical and emotional health,” Shelli Kind, executive director of American Heart Association Puget Sound, said in a statement.

Participation and donations for the Heart Stroke Walk has become increasingly critical for those with a congenital heart defect,w ho are at-risk members for serious complications if they contract COVID-19. The Heart and Stroke Walk funds research, supports front line health care workers, and supports community members who are impacted by the coronavirus and other heart and brain-related medical conditions.
