75th Annual Holiday Spirit Continues to Shine in Downtown Tacoma

Though the 75th anniversary of the holiday tree and menorah lighting in front of Pantages Theater had to be lit in private, due to COVID-19 concerns, community members are invited to view the tradition virtually.

The City of Tacoma is presenting the opportunity to view the display virtually along with performances from the theaters’ Resident Arts Organizations. On Monday, Dec. 14, TV Tacoma will begin airing images of the holiday tree packaged with performances from Symphony Tacoma, Puget Sound Revels, Tacoma City Ballet, Tacoma Concert Band, and Tacoma Youth Symphony.

“Although the holidays look different during 2020, we invite the community to enjoy the beautiful downtown display throughout the season or from the comfort of their homes,” said Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards in a press release. “In this unprecedented and challenging year, our community spirit remains strong and resilient, and we hope the sight of these long-standing, downtown traditions will bring the community joy.”

The holiday display is produced by collaboration of City of Tacoma departments and Tacoma Public Utilities including Tacoma Venues & Events, Public Works’ Signal & Street Operations, Tacoma Power Wire Shop, and TV Tacoma. Maplewood Arbor Care transported the tree. TV Tacoma can be viewed on both the Click! (via Rainier Connect) and Comcast Cable systems.
