3 to See: Week of July 18

Fircrest Fun Days

Join the City of Fircrest for a weekend party full of entertainment, food, and adorable dogs at Fircrest Fun Days: The Dog Days of Summer. The festivities kick off on July 19, with a movie showing of A Dog’s Way Home and field games. But things get into full swing on July 20 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with everything from food trucks to bouncy houses to fireworks. This year’s Fun Days also includes the Kiwanis FURcrest Top Pet contest and its first Furry 4k.

Vashon Island Strawberry Festival

Just a short ferry ride away lies the 110th annual Vashon Island Strawberry Festival, a “celebration of all things that make Vashon Island unique.” From July 19 to 21, the island will be packed with events and activities. Highlights throughout the weekend include a pancake breakfast; fun run; parades; swing dance lessons; a classic car show; and, of course, plenty of strawberries. For a full breakdown of each day, check here.

Leopold’s No. 1 Lager

Get a taste of history with an actual taste of Olympia Brewery FounderLeopold Schmidt’s original recipe. Brewmaster Paul Knight, along with Paul Pearson, head brewer at Well 80, recreated the 123-year-old recipe using Schmidt’s handwritten notes and are ready to celebrate its release. Beginning at 1 p.m. on July 21, a horse-drawn carriage will depart from Schmidt’s House to deliver the first keg to Well 80 Brewhouse for the first tapping at 2 p.m. The festivities will continue with a brass band and charitable auction.
