Rachel Platten, X Ambassadors Share Fair Billing

Thursday night’s installment in the Columbia Bank Concert Series at the Washington State Fair was a double bill featuring singer-songwriter Rachel Platten and alt-rock band X Ambassadors.

The concert was especially exciting for one happy couple who got engaged on stage with the help of Platten. Faking a “best seat in the house” competition, Platten called the pair up on stage while she sang “Better Place.” In the middle of the song, the proposal happened much to the “oooh” and “awww” of the crowd.

Platten opened the concert with a set that included her hits “Fight Song” and “Stand By You.” Platten also went into her back catalog to play “1,000 Ships” from her album, 2011’s Be Here.

X Ambassadors took the stage for the second half of the two-hour concert. Lead singer Sam Harris was all over the stage playing, at different times, saxophone, guitar, bass, and even the drums. It was a high-energy set that earned an encore.
