New Yoga Studio Offers Innovative Style

Uplift Yoga & Healing Arts Studio in downtown Tacoma offers a new and exciting way to do yoga — aerially.

Opened by healing practitioner and entrepreneur Anna Gildenhar, the studio allows students to practice yoga using a gravity defying silk hammock. Opened in May, the studio specializes in AntiGravity Aerial Yoga. The technique uses a silk apparatus that supports the body and allows greater range of movement.

Additionally, the studio also offers Glow Flow Yoga, Acro Yoga, Wheel Flow Yoga, and more. At some point, Gildenhar plans to sell holistic products — like essential oils — and jewelry.

Gildenhar was part of Spaceworks’ Creative Enterprise Tier 1 program in spring 2017.

“I really didn’t know much about how to run a successful business before entering the program, except for what I’ve had to learn on my own the hard way over the past two years,” Gildenhar said, in a news release. “Now, I feel a lot more confident knowing the ins and outs, and technicalities of running a business like, for example, which business structure would work best for me, how to keep track of my financials more easily, as well as knowing which questions to ask when looking at commercial spaces to rent.”

Uplift Yoga & Healing Arts Studio is located at 1127 Broadway in downtown Tacoma. It’s a commercial space that, up until now, hadn’t been occupied for a decade.
